The bail mobilité
A short furnished lease — the mobility lease — created by French law in 2018 for people in training or on assignment. For a student, one thing matters above all: there is no security deposit to put down.
One to ten months, no renewal
The length is fixed when you sign and cannot be extended. At the end the lease simply stops: to stay on, you sign a different type of contract. That is a genuine constraint — and it is also what lets a landlord accept a short stay without committing to a full year.
No security deposit — that is the law, not a favour
Article 25-13 of the French law of 6 July 1989 forbids a security deposit on this lease. A landlord cannot ask for one, even under another name. On FindMyRoom the field is locked at zero for these homes: it is a technical constraint, not a commercial promise.
The Visale guarantee is accepted
Visale is free, issued by Action Logement, and covers most students under 30. It replaces a personal guarantor — including for students whose family lives abroad, which is often what unblocks an application.
Only for certain situations
You must be in vocational training, higher education, an apprenticeship, an internship, volunteer service, on transfer or on a temporary assignment. You declare the reason when you sign.
What it changes upfront
On a home at €600 including utilities, a standard furnished lease usually asks for one month's deposit. On a bail mobilité that month disappears from your move-in cost: at the same rent, you put down €600 less.
The move-in cost shown on every listing already accounts for the lease type. There is nothing for you to work out.
